Cangelosi Sparks & Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports Announce the Hiring of Mike Vucsko as Assistant Director of Baseball Operations
LOCKPORT, IL (July 15, 2026) — Cangelosi Sparks and Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports are excited to announce the hiring of Mike Vucsko as the organization’s new Assistant Director of Baseball Operations, effective July 1, 2026.
In this leadership role, Vucsko will play an integral part in the continued growth and success of both organizations. His responsibilities will include overseeing player development initiatives, helping lead the Cangelosi Sparks High School Division, providing recruiting guidance to players and families, assisting with roster evaluations, directing off-season training, coaching within the organization, and supporting the continued development of Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports programming and operations.
Vucsko’s journey comes full circle as he returns to the organization where his own baseball career took shape. A 2007 graduate of Marist High School, he played for the Cangelosi Sparks from ages 15-18 before continuing his playing career at Lewis University.
Following his collegiate career, Vucsko quickly established himself as one of the area’s rising coaches. He began his coaching career at Western Illinois University before moving to Quincy University, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership. He later returned to Lewis University as an assistant coach before being named the Flyers’ head coach in the summer of 2021.
During his time at Lewis, Vucsko coached former Sparks standout George Bilecki, a 2022 Marist graduate who was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 12th round of the 2025 MLB Draft.
“Mike embodies everything we value as an organization,” said Tyler Thompson, Director of Baseball Operations for Cangelosi Sparks. “He’s a former Sparks player who understands our culture, has built an outstanding reputation as a collegiate coach, and has demonstrated a genuine passion for developing young men both on and off the field. His experience, leadership, and ability to build meaningful relationships with players and families make him an outstanding addition to our staff.”
Vucsko’s extensive coaching experience at the collegiate level, combined with his firsthand understanding of the Sparks player pathway, positions him to make an immediate impact on the organization’s player development and recruiting efforts.
As Assistant Director of Baseball Operations, Vucsko will work closely with players, families, coaches, and staff to further strengthen the organization’s commitment to providing one of the premier baseball development experiences in the Midwest.
The entire Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports and Cangelosi Sparks family is excited to welcome Mike back home and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on the next generation of Sparks players.
